hotel spina (our hotel in istanbul)

Day 39-43: Hotel Spina was our hotel in Istanbul. You’d be hard pressed to find a better location in Sultanahmet, right between the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia, equidistant from each and with unbelievable views from the roof terrace over both.
Our room was simple, elegant and uncluttered. Breakfast on the terrace was a sublime experience […]

hotel desraadet, istanbul

Day 38: On our first night in Istanbul we arrived after 1am and were happy to check in to the Hotel Desraadet without fuss.
While we only stayed here a night, before moving to Hotel Spina which was recommended by a traveller we met in Rhodes, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast and had our first experience […]

efes hotel, canakkale

Day 37: One night only in Canakkale and we opted for the Efes Hotel not far from the clocktower. Not the best choice. The corridors were pitch black, our room was drab and it was the most basic breakfast that we’ve had in Turkey.
Hotel summary
Double room, fan, private bathroom: US$37
In a few words: Not the […]

hotel paris, selcuk, turkey

We stayed overnight in Selcuk at the very affordable (35 lira) Hotel Paris, highly convenient to the bus station (one block, through the market square behind the bus station) in a comfortable room with TV and a little balcony that I could sit on (quietly) in the morning while Kate continued with her beauty sleep. Highly recommended.

hotel dort mevsim, pamukkale

Kitchy pink decor, pool, internet and (like most places in Pammukkele, it seemed), wifi internet access from our room. Also, the staff were always on hand to sell us bus and tour tickets, even Turkish carpets hand woven by a struggling local co-operative. Hmmm.

hotel zeybek 1, patara

Days 32-33: Arriving in Patara as a travelling foursome, without anywhere lined up to stay, Andrew and I parked ourselves at the Lazy Frog restaurant while Kate and Anthea went accommodation-hunting.
After an exhaustive search of the region, they chose Zeybek 1 (not to be confused with nearby Zeybek 2) for its friendly family owners, pool, […]

motel ani, kas, turkey

There was a nice roof terrace and our first Turkish hotel breakfast was quite tasty

pink elephant pension, old rhodes town, rhodes, greece

the very friendly and thoughful owners made our stay very pleasant, and the location, away from the cruise ships in a quieter part of rhodes old town, was ideal.
